The 42nd General Meeting of Members of the Polish Composers’ Union took place on 13–14 June this year, as in previous years, at the pleasant and hospitable headquarters of the Society of Authors ZAiKS at 2 Hipoteczna Street in Warsaw. Traditionally, the following day saw the General Meeting of the Musicologists’ Section of the Polish Composers’ Union.
A very moving moment of the 42nd General Meeting was the awarding of honorary membership of the Polish Composers’ Union to Teresa Malecka, Marta Ptaszyńska, Zbigniew Bargielski and Jerzy Maksymiuk. The announcement of the Union’s 100th anniversary jubilee was also a solemn moment, accompanied by a brief presentation of the website currently under construction (by us!). Immediately afterwards, we had the opportunity to give a very short presentation of our latest projects. Short, because we were under time pressure (as usual, or perhaps as always and everywhere, and in this case with good reason, so that the General Meeting would not be prolonged too much). We present this concise summary in a file available in the About Us/Presentations tab: Biblioteka Naukowa ZKP – Polskie Centrum Informacji Muzycznej POLMIC 2022–2025 .
We knew that the current President of the ZKP did not plan to run for another term. Despite this, even though we were prepared for such a statement, the moment when, after his report, he officially bid farewell and recommended Beata Bolesławska-Lewandowska as the most suitable person from the entire ZKP for the position was extremely moving. It was followed by a storm of applause ending in a standing ovation – in this way, the outgoing President was repeatedly bid farewell and the new President, a well-known musicologist and – as repeatedly emphasised not only by commentators involved in new trends – the first woman in this role in the entire history of the ZKP, Beata Bolesławska-Lewandowska, was welcomed.
We look forward to continuing our work with the new Board, the new President, and the new Chair of the Musicologists' Section, Iwona Lindstedt. We warmly congratulate all those elected. We know them all well and are close to them; they have worked with us, visited the PCU Library, and corresponded with us. We will continue to work together. Mieczysław Kominek, President of the Polish Composers’ Union for several terms (2015–2025), continues to hold the post of the Director of POLMIC and was also appointed by the Presidium of the Main Board of the Polish Composers’ Union at its first meeting to the position of the PCU official representative for organisation of the Polish Composers’ Union 100th anniversary festival. We wish everyone, including ourselves, lots of strength! (Iz.)
